I am in a bit of a desperate situation and need some advice.

My employer put me up for redundancy then discriminated against me based on a protected characteristic. I raised a grievance with them and they to some degree acknowledged fault and offered me a demoted role to stay at the company, same pay but less responsibility and different scope of work. I went back and asked for an exit package and they have now said it either I take the role or I am resigning. This doesn’t feel fair at all. I haven’t even been given a JD about this role just from the team/department I know its not the right role for me. Are they just calling my bluff and not wanting to settle? I have a solicitor and am waiting to hear back from them but I am an anxious mess. I don’t want to go back and feel so powerless.

Can you run this again slightly more detailed.
they told you your position was being made redundant and then at some point after this they did something discriminatory?

Yes. They told me my role was redundant (genuine redundancy), I was told I would be offered another role, went and had a baby and they said no roles available. I showed them X,Y,Z roles and said why are these not being offered? They said because they need filling immediately. I raised a grievance as I had not been properly consulted and the fact they needed filling immediately is not something that should stop them from offering it to me if it is a suitable alternative. They came back and acknowledge that mistake and said here have this role ( the demotion ). If i refuse it then I am resigning apparently.
