Pre-booking baby registration appointment

Is it possible to book an appointment before the baby is born for after the baby is born? I just want to be prepared and am worrying that I will struggle to get an appointment. Any advice?

No. It’s a 6 week window. Why are you worrying?

Maybe it depends on where you live but I'm sure i remember in my borough, when you go to book the appointment, you have to give some details about the baby on the online booking form. Our borough has a longer than 6week wait for appointments, but noone at the council seemed bothered. Just book it for as soon as you can once baby is born.

No. Or at least it's not where I am.

It doesn't matter, though, there's plenty of availability, and on the very rare chance that you can't find any at all, you can be excused from the registration deadline until you can.

I'm pretty sure we had to give the baby's name , sex, DoB and place of birth, which they cross referenced with hospital records.

I'm pretty sure I could have booked for the next day when I went to book!

Apart from anything else, there's a 5 week window in which a "full term" baby could feasibly arrive. Then you might be home from hospital straight away, if you are there. Or you might end up in hospital after all and be there for a while. If you're going make an appt in advance, when would you make it for?

When DS was born I was given a card with all the details on it about registering the birth, I’m sure there was a reference number on the card that I had to give when I made the appointment. There was a two week wait for an appointment at the time.

I was told that you won’t get into trouble for not registering the birth within six weeks as long as you have made an appointment within six weeks. If you make an appointment one week after the birth but you can’t be seen until week seven that’s fine.

Have you actually called the Registry Office to find out what the current waiting time is? Are you in a rush to register the birth because you want to get a passport for baby?
