Parent Visa Advice

Posting on behalf of a friend who is not a British national (English is not her first language)

She has a child with duel nationality who was born in her home country but has a British father. She has lived in the UK for the last 3 years on a partner visa, working, paying NI and tax etc. She has now split with partner, the relationship has been abusive and the main reason she has stayed so long has been that when she first tried to leave he got a court order to stop her taking their child back to live in her home country. She is reluctant to get the police involved. She is now in a position of needing to apply for a parent visa, but being in financial difficulties. I have read on the government website that she can apply for fees to be waived however she been advised by someone else that this could harm her visa application.

My understanding from reading the government website is that she would be likely eligible for the fee to be waived and that it would be likely her parent visa would be accepted. She is the resident parent and main carer, child is UK citizen and in UK school.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.
