I need some advice. I purchased some wooden flooring from a firm called Direct Flooring, and after a day, changed my mind due to an issue regarding the thickness of it in relation to my doors.. They refused to refund me and would only issue a Credit Note for the same amount. I wasn't too happy, but accepted it thinking once I checked out the issue concerned, I could reinstate the order. My wife now wants a cheaper alternative, but they won't refund the difference, saying they'll, again, only issue a Credit Note for the difference. We'd be left with a Credit Note we don't need, though. Surely that's not legal It's our money. What if we didn't want to shop there at all for our flooring?

Was it bought online or instore?
If bought online you have the right to return it and get a refund (as long as it wasn't made to measure) even for a change of mind.
If returning you'd need to notify within 14 days and then have another 14 days to return the items

CANCELLATIONS AND RETURNS
(Applicable for Internet Sales only). In accordance with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel your order up to 14 days after you receive the goods.
Please note that in the event of a cancellation, the Buyer is responsible for paying all costs associated with returning the order. The item is the Buyer's responsibility until it reaches our designated returns address.
For the Buyer's protection, we recommend sending returns using a delivery service that insures the Buyer's total value of the goods.
Alternatively, contact us if we can arrange a more economical collection on your behalf. However, we may retain the right to refuse to organize the return delivery on the Buyer's behalf in certain circumstances.
Please ensure to package all returns adequately. It is recommended to contact us for packaging advice. We will not accept a refund for any returns unless the product has been returned in unmarked and undamaged condition. This includes packaging.
To cancel your order, email: [email protected]. We will arrange with you for the goods to be collected from the delivery address. We will then refund the total amount paid for the goods, less the cost incurred by us for collection (this cost is the charge made to us by the delivery company and will depend on the size of your order). All goods must be re-packed as they were received. Refunds will be made to the payment card initially used to purchase within 30 days of cancellation.

If you bought the flooring in store and you are simply returning because you changed your mind, not because there is something wrong with it or it is not as described (for example the box says it's 5mm thick but in reality it's 10mm, for example) You have no automatic right to a refund.

A credit note is perfectly legal In these circumstances - They don't actually even have to offer that if you just change your mind on a store purchase.

It's up to you if you want to spend all of the credit note or not, but you have no rights to any of it being refunded, If there was nothing wrong with the flooring.

Aye, I've now discovered that's 100% right.
