I just find out my husband did the will behind my back. I only know kids are involved but they are 16. I can't read the will as is online and you need to know the password. My only worry is I'm on the property as a owner with him is possible he make kids to have access to this when he died etc. I don't want to be homeless when he pass away. Can somebody help I will contact solicitor as well.

He can leave his assets to his children yes, but obviously not yours. Is that what you’re asking?

ShanghaiDiva · 26/03/2025 19:35

Do you hold the property as joint tenants or tenants in common?

Winterseal · 26/03/2025 19:35

Yes I am but I'm worried that he is doing this on purpose that I will be left with nothing.

I don't know he bought it in 2008 and I'm on half of it.

He can only bequeath things that he owns, if you own the house as joint tenants then it will automatically pass to the other owner when the first one dies. If you own it as tenants in common he can give away his share. You should have your own will drawn up.

You could divorce him and secure your assets now

Soontobe60 · 26/03/2025 19:40

You can search for your house deeds here - it will tell you who the owners are and how it is owned. It costs around £6. When you complete the search, download the documents. You can also put a marker on the document so that you receive alerts if he tries to change anything,

Do you have access to all the bank accounts?

Search for land and property information

Find a property and get its title plan, title register and see who owns it

He may have used an online service to write his will, but it isn’t valid unless it has been printed out, signed, and witnessed. So there must be a paper copy somewhere.

That’s nothing to do with who owns it. Have a good look at the deeds, who;s name is on it and is there a charge on it for a mortgage lender?

I have only seen online document to make changes and sign. It might come through the post. I can't access land register because you need to do it by post if is for court etc so is not showing who is owning. I am more than sure he said to solicitor he doesn't want hard copy. How long is will valid ?

If you are married, then decide to divorce, all his money - savings, pension etc - will be taken into account. It is all considered joint money in the eyes of the law.
