GP Test Results Missing

Hello!

The full story here is very convoluted, so here is a shorter version (no intentional drip-feeding!):

  • Had a health issue for several months, doing some research I found something it could be, which is common in people with an auto immune condition that I have.
  • Visited my GP, asked him to test for it. He said "I wondered when that would come up", and ordered the blood test. He wrote in the notes (that I can see on my GP record) that he thought it was something else, but had ordered the test at my request.
  • Had the blood test. 10 days passed, no results, so I emailed the practice.
  • First response: been lost, rebook, I said Ok.
  • Same day another response (different receptionist): that type of test takes longer. I said ok and would hold off rebooking for a week.
  • That evening, text from GP saying result was back, negative.
  • A few days later and it's not uploaded to my NHS App, where every other blood test I have had is, I asked why, was told it was automatic and would happen after GP had seen it.
  • A few more days, still not up - told unsure why.
  • Again, a few more days and still not up. Receptionist emailed and said result not back yet.
  • I asked how GP had been able to tell me the result if it's not back. The receptionist that told me to wait to rebook then replied and said GP could maybe see it on a different system.
  • Three more emails from me, was told GP would respond, he hasn't.
  • I've since had blood test done privately at my own cost, awaiting results.
  • GP Practice have not provided any proof of the result, and nothing has been uploaded to the GP record in my NHS App.

I don't trust someone just because they're a GP. I feel like he didn't thin I had it, so just wanted me off of his back.

Regardless of the result from the private test, I plan on asking for a meeting with the Practice Manager, and to be shown proof on this 'different system' of the blood test result they received, and an explanation of why (assuming it has been received) it has not been uploaded onto my GP record, where everything else is.

If they cannot provide proof of the result, what action should I then take? Obviously my first action would be to ask to be reimbursed for the cost of the test. But if the GP has falsified a result, I'm not going to let that sit. If the result then comes back positive, as opposed to the negative result the GP gave me, that must be grounds for a formal complaint?

If they can provide proof, is there a reason why they would refuse to upload it onto my record?

This all seems a bit odd, my GP has not responded. I'm not contacting the practice now until I get my result from the private test.

Any experience of this, or advice on how to handle it? I have all of the emails and the text from the GP.

Thank you to anyone who has read this far!

I would feel the same as you. I am proactive in monitoring my health and pushing forwards with symptoms etc, largely due to so many health problems. This would not sit well with me at all.

I think once your results come in you'll know what to do. Meeting with the practice manager is certainly one option. I have written to mine before who fortunately was swift at resolving the issue. You need to think one step at a time and once your result comes in, it will be easier to decide what to do.
