Life assurance, age discrimination?

I am in need of some advice please. My father sadly passed away from cancer on 10/01/25 aged 65. He was in employment at the time on sick leave. He started to become unwell in November 2024 and enquired about the life assurance benefit with his workplace (done through an insurance broker) and they confirmed that he was eligible.

After my father passed, I enquired about the life assurance. A member of the HR team called me and stated he was eligible. However, an hour after the phone call I received an email stating he was not eligible due to my father being the termination age (65) at the start of the policy year (November 2024).

As my father was born 23/06/1959, his state age retirement age was 66. Do I have a case for age discrimination under the Equality Act against the employer?

Unfortunately the policy will be underwritten as per what the company requested, any grievance therefore will be with his employer.
