Finding out date of my divorce

SOT3 · 05/03/2025 07:58

I need to know the date of my divorce to claim my state pension. It was over 30 years ago and I can't recall the date, and unfortunately my paperwork was lost in a fire.

I can't recall now which solicitor was used.

Does anyone know please where I can search to find out the date of my divorce?

Telephone births, deaths and marriages department at yoyr local council. I'm sure they will br able to advise how you can get a copy of decree absolute.

If you still have a civil relationship would your ex spouse be helpful? I appreciate this may not be the case but my MIL had to get a copy of divorce certificate or possibly original marriage certificate from FIL (divorced 20years) recently. I think she sent the request via one of their children and he sent the paperwork via my DH

Actually go on .gov and search "getting a copy of decree absolute" ... it tells you there.

I think it gets marked on the record of your marriage, so the register office there may be able to help.

If in the U.K., the U.K. courts service will have records
