Today I think I agreed to buy a dealership demonstration car but I was not thinking straight because I have not seen it and didn’t realise I was signing my life away. I realised the same day I don’t want the car it’s not suitable. I emailed at 5.30 to cancel today. However now really stressed as I think I might have legally agreed to buy the car I have not even seen. Can I cancel on the same day surely I can. Also the finance agreement

It’s a main dealership so I think a legitimate business

If you bought it on the internet you have 14 days to change your mind under distant selling rules, if so tell them you have changed your mind.

Sheldonsheher · 24/02/2025 22:11

I saw it on the internet but unfortunately I went into the branch to discuss. I was not thinking straight that he was getting me to sign over / agree without even seeing it . I don’t think I can sleep tonight . It was a vw approved used car it’s only a demonstration car so not like they have lost money on it but I think I was not aware of what I was doing. I emailed him the same day to cancel but it was closed so have to wait till the morning

Look up distance selling rules on uk.gov i think you are covered.

Sheldonsheher · 24/02/2025 22:14

But I signed in person which was a error

He didn’t even offer to let me see it and hasn’t confirmed the actual millage so is there a way to say it was missold not understood

Was hoping someone with legal knowledge would advise?

So you signed a credit agreement? What type - loan, PCP or lease? If it's a loan you've got a 14 day cooling-off period regardless of whether it was online or in person. For PCP and leases I'm not sure.

Sheldonsheher · 24/02/2025 22:31

I can cancel the finance it’s the car buying but that is a issue

It’s all a blur he was doing it quicker than I could think

What did you think you were signing? This isn't meant to sound provocative, I just want to know what you thought at the time?

mjdle · 24/02/2025 22:43

No legal advice but I've cancelled a car I saw and agreed to buy from a dealership the day after, they were even nice enough to give me my deposit back which I didn't expect. I think of it's a legit place they won't want the hassle of making you buy something when you changed your mind so fast, wouldn't be a good look for business. A cars a big decision, or probably happens more than we think. Try and sleep easy, restless nights don't change anything 🙂

Sheldonsheher · 24/02/2025 22:44

I don’t know really I was thinking all the time I haven’t seen the car and he said he would confirm things and let me know so I sort of got confused what I was agreeing to

OP posts:
JellyBeanFactory · 24/02/2025 23:39

Have you got copies of any paperwork to see exactly what you've signed and what the T&Cs are?

Sheldonsheher · 24/02/2025 23:48

I think I have been really daft I am not able to sleep having a panic attack. I really didn’t understand that this was a sale I thought only it would be confirmed when I saw car and he confirmed the millage etc. can I cause them of misleading me or bad sales practice if they refuse to cancel it in the morning I let them know it was a mistake on the same day

OP posts:
JellyBeanFactory · 25/02/2025 07:02

What paperwork do you have?

Sheldonsheher · 25/02/2025 09:13

Thanks for al your help only slept 1.5 hours last night. Then got email saying no worries canceled and even admin fee returned so I am so relieved. A cautionary lesson for me. so maybe car sales men are ok actually it was the main dealership so I think that helped.

People cancel car purchases all the time. Call them this morning to follow up your mail, I doubt it’ll be an issue.

Sheldonsheher · 25/02/2025 11:03

Thanks yes it’s all cancelled

Shade17 · 25/02/2025 11:28

Sorry, I missed your update. Glad it’s all sorted. It won’t be anything that doesn’t happen on a weekly basis in a main dealer
