🇬🇧 My car was written off at around 3am while parked up and they drove off, I was lucky that I was able to get the registration of the vehicle via cctv and their insurance accepted liability due to no response from the driver. It was a long process and caused me months of stress.
1 day after the crash my friend found the other car in a ditch 2 miles from my house I informed the police of this and nothing was done. The police have been awful throughout the whole thing and have just told me throughout that they can’t get in touch with the person.
The main problem I have is I am about 5 thousand pound out of pocket due to spending a lot of money on the car at the garage maybe 6 weeks before this happened and not getting the money for the car I should have via the insurance (they didn’t take spec etc into the equation) obviously the stress caused by this too.
I have been chasing the police for months as I would like to take the person to court to try and get back some of my losses back, they have just completely ignored my emails for months. It takes me ringing 101 and going through a whole process to get any response. I have now just heard back and they are saying they are closing the case due to no response from the driver.
This doesn’t seem right to me as I am so out of pocket and more to the point they could have killed someone how do they just get away with it and get no consequences. I am wondering where I stand with the police for how awfully this has been dealt with and what my next step is or even get the information to take the person to court myself, it just doesn’t sit right with me to just leave it and it’s constantly on my mind.
