I want to apply for a British passport for my son.

• His father is refusing to provide details for the application.

my son only has a birth certificate and was born few months ago. how do I apply for my son since I am non British?

You can find out most things with some sleuthing and even order a copy of the dads birth certificate if you need.

Your son would get British citizenship from his dad so his details are essential on the application as you aren't automatically a British citizen from being born in Britain.

Doesn't it say on .gov what you can do? They are usually pretty good at covering all eventualities.

To get the passport OP needs to show her child has british citizenship. That can't be done through her if she isn't a British citizen herself so would need her dhs details if he is british.

You need the parents full name, DOB, place of birth and I think passport number assuming they have one.

Without his input OP may not be able to get the passport so knowing his thought process might help

I don't see what difference it makes why he is refusing to give the details.

@Nmasugar I think the first thing you should do is contact visas and immigration to find out which, if any, of the six types of British Nationality your child has.
