HDC tag and paid work timing allowance outside hours

Hi
I need some help in regards to the allowance given while on HDC tag. I have a work place who is ready to let me start the work but shift time falls outside of 7am to 7pm.

The shift time is 1pm to 9pm. I spoke to my Probation officer and she doesn't seem to have much clue and is not willing to help out with this which I find very strange tbh. I supplied her with the requested documents from my employer and yet this is getting harder to get the timing changed.

Does anyone here know any law related to this to allow the tag timing to be changed as I would like to get back to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi OP. It really shouldn’t be massively complicated but it is something your probation officer needs to agree to & do, the times can be changed for good reasons and working hours is one of them. You need to put the request to your probation officer formally, if they agree to it then it then needs to be sent to prison for approval. They can refuse it if they have a good reason to do so but that’s something they should/would discuss with you.

Can you go direct to the Prison & explain your PO 'didn't know what to do' (aka was being instructive).

Good Luck, it's too good an opportunity to miss out on, so find a way quickly!!

Thanks for the reply
When you say go to the prison? Do I visit/call the prison directly? At the moment, I only have Probation officer to contact to. I have not been given a contact of anyone else other than the probation officer.

Sorry but your PO is being useless. Put the request formally in writing. If she doesn't do anything go over her head to her supervisor.

Is the tag court ordered or part of early release from prison?

The tag is from part of early release from prison

I'm sorry I don't know, personally in your position I'd ring the prison, I'd ring the police, I'd email my MP, anyone I could think of. basically

I agree with PP, to put it in writing to your PO & request a reply in writing.

sorry can't be of more (any) help, but hopefully someone will be alone soon who can help more.

In that case any changes to the general times needs to be authorised by the Governor of the prison that you were released from.

Ask them to consider the request as a priority and explain about the job offer.

But one thing, do not start the job until you have agreement from the Governor or you are likely to get recalled.

@Another2Cats

i think John needs some help with how to do that. Who he needs to contact more specifically. Can you help?

catin8oots · 21/11/2024 17:21

Probation need to loads with the prison. OP won't get anywhere trying to contact the prison directly.

Honestly OP keep on at your PO. They are being crap. It's rubbish you are trying to do something to help your rehabilitation and they are not supporting

Liase not loads

Update: Managed to get the timing updated. Had to involve local MP who was quite helpful and emailed probation officer. Thanks for everyone's help here.
