Bought a stolen car

Hi I bought a car 3 months ago and know have found out it was stolen and someone else’s plates copied and put on car . Can I ask insurance company that now legally own it , to buy it from them ? I love the car . Please any advice 😔

As it was stolen, it still legally belongs to the original owner - or in this case the insurance provider who took it as payment for insuring the vehicle.

There's nothing stopping you from asking to buy it again from the insurers? But I wouldn't trust them to find a good selling price, you'll need to do your research and work out it's market value.

Was it a lovely vintage car?

You can certainly ask! Assuming they have paid out to the original owner, they could sell it to whoever really. I'm not sure of the legal formalities to get it registered properly, but I'd imagine that if you don't buy it back they would send it to auction or similar.
