Hi,

Just needed a bit of advice please. Today my husband lost both our daughter's and my passport and birth certificates. He had left it in a cafe. An hour later he realised he didn't have the documents and went back to the cafe and thankfully the file was still there. Do we need to report this to the police? I'm worried that someone has all my and my daughter's details. 😔

Surely, if someone was going to go to the lengths of using their details, the file wouldn't have been left behind? It'd be far easier to have the originals if I was going to use them for something nefarious

If someone had wanted your details they would have taken the file. I very much doubt it was even touched or looked at. What would reporting to the police do? No crime has been committed

Unless there is an offence of being an incompetent husband, there is no need.

What details would anyone have got that they could not get otherwise? If the documents were left intact there is no issue,
