Sorry this is really, really long but trying to get everything in.
OK, So we have a smallholding, which is very secure, it has 2 lots of gates. I have 2 rescue dogs and although they are a little nervous around strangers they never have and I would never believe they would do anything.
I am a responsible dog owner and they are ALWAYS on a lead when we go out, the only place we let them off to have a run is our smallholding. Not because we feel they are unsafe it is just that we have this smallholding where I go to do my child's pony so that's just where we go with the dogs.
You can physically see through the gates, and so see the dogs there barking - if someone is there or a car pulls up they would bark to let us know someone is there - quite normal.
I must also add they are loving family pets and 1 of them is my therapy dog (not trained from a society) but he picks up on my symptoms and notifies me when I am poorly and about to have a fit, he has saved my life on several occasions he is always by my side (my husband always says the dog is a mummies boy).
Anyway going back to what happened at the smallholding. Let's say a 'friend' who is a fully grown independent adult, despite the dogs being there barking (he does not know the dogs and they do not know him) he enters the smallholding, as soon as I realise I call the dogs and they come back to me straight away. Apparently on entering through the gate, one of the dogs bite him (my therapy dog). He plays it down and said it was all fine, he said the dog caught his leg (a scratch) and it was fine. no worries and that was that.
Anyway that evening I get a snotty message from a relation of this friend saying my dog had bitten him and they took him to A&E to get a tetanus jab. And that my dogs are out of control and dangerous.
Firstly this person enters the smallholding while dogs are there barking - surely anyone with common sense would not go into a field with dogs there barking and warning them off, and you would call out first to acknowledge your there and so owner can get dogs in.
It was a split second from entering and when I got dogs.
The person said it was all ok but his relative is the one causing a fuss and the brother said should report the dog.
I am now really worried what is going to happen to me and my dog.
There is also a sign up saying dogs on land etc and do not enter, please call or ring bell first.
The person's friend who sent me the message also has been adding to the story and saying things and made out it was all so much more than it was and they were not even there. I was not alone I had family with me at this time so there were witnesses which can in fact back me up and prove the story the relation to the person in question was not true.
However what do I do? Do I have a leg to stand on being it seems like it was his fault. But not sure if he was reported they would say dangerous dog so he needs to pts or me fined or which ever. It is so very difficult and upsetting.
