House INSURANCE help

Hello

Looking to get house insurance

Anyone have a company they can recommend or equally one they dont

Iv had a quote saying
Building Sum insured £0
By googling i dont think that should be £0
Does that cost more to get it to cover for worse case scenario?
Surely this one at the moment means i would have no cover if the house had to be totally rebuilt

Any help would be appreciated

Mine is with privilege. Have you tried price comparison websites?

AgreeableDragon · 10/09/2024 21:54

Your post is a bit confusing! But £0 for sun insured is clearly not right.
I'd suggest you go into a high street insurance broker and talk to someone to understand what you need to insure . For example are you trying to insure the actual building, or do you want to insure the contents of the building?
They are two different things.

DonttouchthatLarry · 10/09/2024 21:58

Is there an amount for contents?

notafraidofthebigbadwolf · 10/09/2024 22:01

Sounds like right now you’ve possibly got a quote for contents insurance but not for buildings. Only useful for renters.

dementedpixie · 10/09/2024 22:03

My buildings cover is Unlimited and Contents is £100K.

Which are you wanting a quote for?

LittleGreenDragons · 10/09/2024 22:12

Sounds like you have asked for Contents only, you have to specify you want both (or just Buildings).

I use one of the comparison websites and go for the cheapest, but well known, company. Sometimes that means it's 6th on the list but I feel more reassured if I recognise the company

mondaytosunday · 10/09/2024 22:17

On mine (Aviva) it asks for building replacement cost. I have no idea what that is but put a figure down and that's what it says on my certificate.

WetWeasel · 10/09/2024 22:20

Sorry for the confusing content
Im confused myself
So we had it last year and as far as i was concerned it was for everything
The new quote they have given me for this year is roughly the same price but it says

Contents 100k
Buildings Cover Sum £0

So now im wondering what the last years cover was and if we were just covered for contents, thank goodness nothing bad happened

Its up for renewel in 2 weeks time so will ring them tomorrow and ask

Iv compared quotes on the internet but how do i know if buildings cover is 100% included

Thank you

You need to check whether you have applied for contents only. Some companies offer separate policies, others combined.
Have a look at sites like compare the market and confused dot com.
You fill in a form about your property and contents, they work out an approximate rebuild cost and give you a quote. I have found compare the market very good.

endofthelinefinally · 10/09/2024 22:24

It will state clearly on your policy documents what is covered. Look at last year's and see what it says. Last year's cover summary will look exactly like the current one. If it says Buildings £0 that means you didn't ask for buildings cover and therefore didn't pay for it.

dementedpixie · 10/09/2024 22:27

You will know buildings is included if they give a figure for a sum insured.

Read the reviews of each company too. It took me 3 days to decide on a company for our buildings insurance this year. It is a bit of a minefield. Especially if you have ever made a claim.
