How to renounce executor role?

To cut a long story short, I was named executor on my mother’s will, but we have been estranged for several years and I want to extricate myself now from this role. I have no way of knowing if she’s removed me anyway, but how do I go about ensuring I am no longer named as such?

No idea, but watching this as someone close to me is in a similar situation. We have kind of hoped that either his name has been removed as executor or he can just say no if the time comes

you can say no when the time comes.

My husband was named without knowledge so he just told the solicitor when they contacted him,it wasn't difficult. Possibly he had to sign a form ,I can't quite remember.

You just say no when she dies. You can't do anything about it while she's alive (except ask her to rewrite it with a different executor, or ask another family member to ask her) but you can just refuse when she dies.

I think if there is no solicitor involvement you have to write to the probate office, or somewhere. And someone has to do it so might be as well to get someone lined up to request to do it - sibling, cousin?
