Those who have made a medical negligence claim I have a couple of questions please or any other advice will be helpful.
I'll give a little back story first, in 2019 my mom was found to have a pre cancerous tumour in her throat while being treated for another cancer, and doctors never done no follow up appointment, told my mom risk or anything. Which they should of done follow up appointments ever few months in the hope if it turned to cancer they could catch it early but they never did she was just lost in the system.
Anyway a year later my mom started having symptoms including persistent cough, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, coughing up all different colour secretions (green/brown/yellow) and was given antibiotics for a chest infection, a year passed and still going back and forth to the doctors, hospital, and loads of different inhalers and antibiotics. My mom begged and pleaded for help once the symptoms began to worsen difficulty swallowing and choking on everything and feeling of someone strangling her, 4 cancelled 4 ENT appointments later (cancelled by nhs) she finally got a diagnosis of T4 laryngeal cancer. The only hope was a operation to hopefully remove the cancer, but by this point she was so so weak weighing a tiny 5 stone due to not being able to eat and drink, it was high risk but she ended up going for the op anyway as she wanted some fighting chance of prolonging her life, but unfortunately this ended in my mom having a heart attack and they couldn't carry on with the op so decided to fit her with a Tracky instead under the tumour to help her breath, this point she was put on end of life care and a month after being diagnosed she unfortunately passed away. My mom's specialist told me before my mom's passing it could of all been prevented had they checked prior medical records and made them follow up appointments which would of gave her a 85% chance of survival had it been picked up at t1 or t2 stage. Anyway we have now got a solicitor involved who says we have a very strong case we are now waiting for response of NHS after letter of claim (due 28th after extention) what do I expect next? The main thing I want from all this is for them to not fail other people like they did with my mom. How much compensation did people receive for their cases (don't need to be exact just figures) this will go to outstanding funeral cost and other bits like a headstone for my mom as I haven't been able to financially sort it all, how long did people's claims take?
Thank you in advance xx
