short story long. My partner and I think we could be being scammed over a van sale.
He bought a van a few years ago and it had major issues from day one. He bit the bullet this week and sold it to someone who had placed little cards under the wipers…. Stating he bought scrap/failed mot vans etc.The van drove off quite happily after the use of jump leads. My partner left something of worth on the van. He rang and asked if he could collect it. All ok. Within half an hour we had a call. The van had broken down and needed recovering. Later on said van had been recovered at a cost of half the value of the van. He was demanding a refund plus the recovery money and to keep the van. Pure harassment since. No threats as such but quite intimidating things being said. Telling us to borrow money from the local loan shark, or to give us our other vehicles to pay him back. We know an electrical engineer who was willing to plug the van in to find fault… this was declined. We offered to refund and have the van back plus the money he’s paid cleaning it up. Also declined. Is this known scam carried out by certain people… (I’m really trying to not be disrespectful here I just want to know if it’s a “thing” before I get jumped on for being judgmental of other cultures etc when I’m really not). Tonight they have rang and rang and rang and wanted to meet to “sort it out”. We didn’t answer or respond.
*Van was collected outside my house, they know where I live.
- It was sold in good faith.
- We are aware of caveat emptor…..
- Yes I have absolutely rang the police (101) and blocked said numbers as advised.
Is this a scam?
Am I panicking over nothing?
We still have the money and are more than willing to refund.
please someone reassure me they are just trying it on 😳
