Will possibly leaving everything to charity/church

This question is because of reading a current thread in Chat about leaving everything in your Will to charity and how they take possession of absolutely everything.

I am NC with my DM who is terminally ill and I heard from her DSis that she has recently updated her Will. Speculation from aunt and DM’s partner is that she is leaving everything to charity and the church - obviously no one knows what’s in it.

My question is that DM has all my baby and childhood photos. I want nothing from her but these photos. Surely a charity or church will not be difficult about letting me take these? She also has some of my wedding photos. All these things are of no use to anyone else but some claim in the other thread that if a charity has been left everything then they can even charge family for things. Surely not for personal photos??

Note - DM does not live in the UK but a country with similar laws. She is hospital and will never return home, and I cannot just go and get these myself due to distance etc.

If your aunt lives close to her, can you not ask her to go onto the house to retrieve all of the photos you want?

@Hadalifeonce unfortunately the aunt who told me doesn’t live anywhere near DM at all.

The other thread has me worried about the aggressive stance some people are claiming charities can make if they are left everything, and whether this includes worthless (to anyone else) things like photos. There is also lots of very old family photos from the late 1800s too.

Is there a friend or neighbour you know who might be able to help you?
I also read that thread and was horrified by some of the stories of very aggressive charities.

Is there someone keeping an eye on her house currently?

When I went NC with my mum I heard from family that she destroyed every photo of me she had.
I hope your DM wouldn’t do that. Perhaps your Aunt could collect them before she passes?
