Can I claim recovery charge back?

I had my 1 year old car serviced 10 weeks ago. Today it cut out, and a warning message same up: ‘Oil pressure failure - do not drive.’ I then discovered that the breakdown cover that came with the car had expired and had to pay £199 surcharge to join the RAC as well as a further £120 for a years membership (I know I should have renewed breakdown cover- but I forgot). The RAC mechanic found that almost all the oil had leaked out due to a fault with the sump washer. My garage have agreed that this was the problem and are currently fixing it. My question is, shouldn’t the garage take responsibility for this? They changed the oil 10 weeks ago, surely nothing should have gone wrong if they’d done it correctly? If they try to charge me for their repairs I will be arguing that, but I also feel I wouldn’t have had to pay out £199 for emergency breakdown cover if it wasn’t for them. Can I argue that they should reimburse me for this? Don’t be mad at me for not checking the oil myself, I know 😖

No, you won't be able to reclaim that from them. You might have been able to get them to recover the car free of charge, but they are not liable for any fees you have paid the RAC.

Wtf 😳

It's a one year old car! Nothing should be going wrong with it - you shouldn't need RaC cover for anything

Yes, I'd be making a FUSS with the main dealer

And why is it being serviced when it's only a year old ?

I don't think they can be landed with the RAC charge really. The rest probably yes but it's not their fault your breakdown cover had lapsed.

Mine is serviced annually. My contract says every 10k or annually I think.
