Royal Mail, missing parcel.

I bought a low value item (approx £30) from a small business owner who posted it using their Tracked24 service. I had email notification that the item had arrived - it had not - and on tracking it, their picture evidence just showed an image of my driveway and front door with absolutely no parcel present.

I spent 45 minutes on-hold to RM and when I finally got to speak to someone, they told me that my item would "probably be delivered later on". I asked them why would they send me a picture of an empty driveway and they merely repeated the same line. Anyway, the item didn't materialise.

I contacted the small business owner - mostly to let them know that there was something amiss with their courier. They also had a look at the picture of delivery on the RM website and confirmed that it showed no parcel. They refunded me -
although I felt (and said as much) that it wasn't their fault.

It still rankles me that this has happened and I'd like to pursue it. I've looked for the pic on my tracking number and it's no longer there (message states 'this picture has been removed').

What is the recourse here? Can anyone advise me on what to do next? I still feel guilty that the small business owner refunded me as well.

It's for the seller to claim this back from RM. You are not party to the contractual relationship between seller and RM. You can therefore do nothing.

You have no further recourse. You didn't have a contract with Royal Mail for delivery of this parcel. The contract was between the business owner and Royal Mail. As he used Track24 and the item was worth less than £150, he can claim compensation for the full value of the missing item.

As @Collaborate said, this is a matter between the seller and Royal Mail and its really none of your business now that you have a refund. The Tracked service includes insurance so the seller won't be out of pocket. You have a refund. This is resolved.

Check your bushes. We had similar and the parcel had been tossed in a hedge.

Thank you @Collaborate @prh47bridge and @OpizpuHeuvHiyo, I didn't know that. I imagined that I'd somehow track my item and then re-pay the business owner. I hope they claim!
