Arrested abroad

loulsd · 14/07/2024 20:39

So just got a phone call from ds saying he's been arrested. He's on holiday abroad. I asked why, he said for nothing and will tell me when he gets let out he can't speak.

Well I'm worried to death now. Anyone know what happens when someone gets arrested abroad

Depends on the country and what he was arrested for. Where is he?

AgentProvocateur · 14/07/2024 20:41

What country and what’s he been charged with?

helpfulperson · 14/07/2024 20:41

They will have to go through whatever the due process for that country is. But it is worth you contacting the local consulate. They can't intervene but can help you understand what the process is. If you can share the country people on here might be able to give more advice.

FusilliGeri · 14/07/2024 20:42

'Abroad' is a big place.

Ivehearditbothways · 14/07/2024 20:42

Arrested in France is very different from arrested in Thailand. Where?

StSwithinsDay · 14/07/2024 20:42

Is he in the Middle East? Thailand? Indonesia?

ThistleWitch · 14/07/2024 20:43

echoing everyone else

WHERE IS HE?

LeroyJenkinssss · 14/07/2024 20:49

appreciate you’re very stressed and I’m sure people will try and give you advice but the country is pretty pertinent.

loulsd · 14/07/2024 20:55

He's just rung me back. They have let him go. He had to pay £170 to be released.
He's in Greece, he said him and his friend were having a petty argument, he kicked a bin, police came out of nowhere and they both got arrested

Just in case this ever happens again, which I'm sure it won't, a good place to start is .gov

This is such a fear of mine.

Ah, so not nothing then

@Nocturna he told me for nothing.

I think the police in Greece are pretty hot on arresting drunk and unruly people - they’re very over having to deal with horrible brits-abroad.

my friends ExH had the same - he was a prat / she was worried - but nothing long term came of it at all

Ivehearditbothways · 15/07/2024 14:41

Does he still think it was nothing? Just a drunken yob then, who thinks his behaviour is fine?

SeeSeeRider · 15/07/2024 14:44

'Nothing' my arse. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

loulsd · 15/07/2024 20:47

He wasn't drunk, they'd only just gone out for food.
He said he'd left his money in the apartment and was angry with himself, so he kicked a bin in anger.
He does have a short temper and gets really frustrated with himself about silly things. He was completely sober on the phone from what I could tell.

He needs to learn to manage his anger issues.

OP posts:
loulsd · 15/07/2024 20:48

His friend was pissed off with him because it would mean them having to walk back to get it.

He needs to sort out his aggression before going abroad again (or getting a girlfriend)

Ivehearditbothways · 16/07/2024 01:35

And what have you don’t about these anger issues? They don’t just start from nowhere; I’d bet my house you watched this sort of behaviour during his young teen years. What did you do? Because you’ve raised the kind of man who is going to throw things around his house, punch the walls and terrify any children he has and any partner he has. He’s the type of man we warn our daughters about and you’re talking like it’s just “a bit of a temper.”
What have you done about it?

labamba007 · 16/07/2024 06:09

Oh ffs he kicked a bin. Some of these replies OP, you'd think that these people had never done anything stupid in their youth. He's learnt a valuable lesson. And yes he needs to look at his anger, but I'm glad he's okay OP.

So you're saying my man is going to be a woman beater who smashed his house up in front of his kids, and it's my fault!!

He kicked a bin out of temper. Yes he does have a temper but he's never smashed anything in the house or hit anyone because of it.
He usually just has a stop doesn't get violent.

Thanks for your judgy over the top comment!!

He knows this now. It scared him what happened and he was crying. Yeah a girlfriend is what he needs rather than a lads holiday!
