Me and my partner of 10 years have recently split up. We have been renting a property for the last 3 years in which we’ve both lived in. I still live there with my 2 children and can afford to pay monthly rents and bills etc.
He has recently moved out but is now demanding that I pay him the deposit for the rental of approx £700 that he did pay for before we first moved in. We’re both on the tenancy and i’m in the process of taking him off, but…
Do I have to pay the full amount back to him even tho he has also lived in the property for the last 3 years too?

I'm not sure why him living in the property is relevant. He paid the deposit. You will get it back when you end the tenancy. If you don't pay him back, he will effectively have paid you £700.

Are they his DC? Is he begrudging paying for a roof over his children's heads?
I'm not sure if he is simply being unreasonable,or if he actually needs the money to rehouse himself. If he is skint( but hardworking and usually responsible for his dc, then if you can afford it, you could offer to go halves. But if he's just being tight, then I wouldn't be offering anything.

Just so we are clear, you refer to this as the deposit for the rental. Do you mean he paid some rental in advance or that he paid the tenancy deposit? In other words, is this money you are going to get back when the tenancy ends?
