Hi everyone,
i am looking for some recent advice from anyone involved in home detention curfew applications or those who have experienced it. I’m totally new to this and the information provided within the UK including online policies lacks!

a little background:
me and my partner have been together for 6 years, 3 of those I lived at home as did he, the next 3 we both had separate homes, rented each privately. We spoke about living together but it never impacted our relationship that we didn’t, plus with different end dates, being comfortable we just kept as we were. we have no children.

around 3 years ago, my partner was dismissed from his public office post due to misconduct. He accepted he had done wrong, never been dismissed before but we both agreed he was an idiot and moved on with life. his employee advised due to the nature of his role they would contact the police, they did, and he attended for voluntary interview - the end, so I thought.

fast forward to 2024, a letter appeared requesting he appear a court, he did, fast forward 5 months he was sentenced to a 12 month sentence, custodial. It was a huge shock, even his solicitor and barrister were shocked.

his been sent miles away, a 3 hour drive. His doing well, has a job, attends gym and is trying to make the most of it.
his been told his eligible for HDC which is effectively tagging, he is eligible from August. I’m aware this isn’t set in stone.
his put my address down, I’m totally happy with this. I now have a two bedroom property, no kids, etc. my ask is what happens now?
his completed his form, probation have called me to schedule in a home visit, the call was quite odd - how do I feel? Do I know what the HdC is? How is our relationship? Can they visit the address. They also have a meeting with him scheduled a week after. It’s virtual, with the prison manager and the same probation officer visiting me.
what should I expect? Is there anything I can do? Why are they visiting? I have no issues with it but feel nobody really explains. After the visit and his meeting, are when then just awaiting approval?

would appreciate any pointers from anyone who has been through this, his offence was his first offence, nobody was hurt, nothing was stolen, it was just that he completed misconduct within a role that carry’s severe punishment.

thanks all xxx

I agree that the long wait between interview, charge and sentencing was very unfair but unfortunately common due to chronic cuts to cps, court back log and and lack of staff. However, your barrister was crap not to prepare him for custodial as (guessing) 'misconduct in a public office' or less common 'malfeasance in public office' ... which are almost always custodial.

Anyway... the tag interview is very straight forward.. it's the same for all addresses given for a curfew . So will include those who are also coercive, violent etc.

They want to check

You are genuinely happy with this.
Not bullied or coerced into it,
Not afraid of him
Able to support him return 'to society'
Understand the constraints of the tag
Understand its operation and who to contact in case of malfunction.

As long as you are deemed 'suitable' in your responses to the above, they will agree it with the prison.
