Amazon refund

I purchased an iPhone from Amazon for next day delivery that I’m assuming was stolen in an Amazon facility in Merseyside as the tracking updates stop there.

I waited 7 days to see if it’ll be delivered, no delivery or tracking updates so I cancelled the order.

Now Amazon refusing to refund until the seller receives the item (that’s been lost in transit for over a week).

What are my options?

Ask them at what point it will be declared officially lost, there's always a cut off (which you can usually see in the app), after which you can apply for a refund.

Amazon are confusing actions required when something is returned either by the customer or becuase of a failed delivery with what's required if a package is stolen in transit?

I assume the referral to a 'seller' indicates that this was an Amazon sale provided or fulfilled by a third party. That can be a ppacket of trouble too.
