Lost loft conversion building regulations completion certificate

We bought our home in 2019 as a 5 bed semi. All documents were given to our solicitors to prove loft conversion (completed in 1999) was carried out correctly and met building regulations at that time - no issues with our mortgage etc. On completion we were given a pack with all the important stuff and of course we have misplaced the completion certificate - I know I have seen it before but we have searched the house 3x over and I cannot find it.
We are now selling our house, and our buyers solicitor has rightly asked for a copy of the certificate. Issue is I can’t find it, and have spoken to our local council and their records don’t go back far enough and are therefore unable to send us a copy.

I’m now having an existential cris worrying about what this will mean going forward. What can we do to prove it met the building regulations at the time of completion?
We cannot afford to lower the price as we need every penny for the purchase of our new home.

Any advice warmly received!! 🥺

Don’t panic! 😃
The existence of the certificate should show up on the buyer’s local authority search so even though you don’t have the actual certificate, the search is evidence that it was issued. If the buyer’s solicitor ask for an indemnity policy anyway, then depending on the value of the house that will probably cost about £200ish.
