We've been living in a rural area for about 2 years. Since we arrived we've not been accepted by the community & in particular a local counsellor has taken a particular dislike to us.
As a consequence we've had a lot of interference from external services following various reporting, all of which we've batted away.
But a couple of weeks ago one night there was a bang on the door, there was a fire & rescue officer saying he had a warrant to enter our property & saying someone had reported us for having a garden fire that was inappropriate & we also needed to provide evidence of having building & planning regs for a building outside.
He flashed a warrant card at us we just didn't know what to do so got documents reassured him there was no fire & after about 20 minutes off he went. He said we could find out who had placed the call by writing to the service (which was not true).
I should say because we have good CCTV & linked recording devices around the house so when he was both in & out of our home everything he said was caught on recording.
The next day we asked the service what this guy was doing at our house in the evening, initially they couldn't tell who he was until we sent a photo.
Turned out of course he didn't have a warrant like he said, he lied about most of the conversation & they said he was there for a reason he'd not even mentioned when he was actually at our house.
I find this really weird & behaviour, like apart from anything, why would someone go out of their way to upset people who they don't know in this way?
We've complained to the service & police are also involved. Meanwhile the fire service, despite now knowing that we've got a recording of everything he said, are defensive & seem to be supporting him.
The service have only this week been in the national paper for discrimination, being poorly managed & ignoring whistleblowers so we're probably small fry.
I'm though outraged that this guy would rock up in our lives presumably doing a favour for a mate.
I'm certain that this local counsellor is behind this harassment, we can't prove this link but the police are trying to establish it. We think he was after information about our property & the very next week someone had reported us to the council for not following building regs on part of our home (which wasn't true).
Do we have other legal options should the police not be able to get anywhere? Any solicitors have any advice?
We've thought about going public with the recording of him making false claims to get into our house. Makes me wonder whether they do this sort of thing all of the time & get away with it. I mean if we didn't have that recording it wouldn't go anywhere.
We're obviously planning to move...
