Equity split in this situation

I am going through the divorce process. Living in London, mortgaged house, ex has lost his job but has a settlement of around 50k.

He has started to make noises about moving home to NI to work there. That would leave me with 100% childcare (DC 13 and 16).

If I were to sell the house, I would not expect him to need very much in terms of housing himself in NI where costs are a tiny fraction of London. Plus he would not have to house DC.

He is applying for jobs there and mooting it, but can I ask for high equity share based on his 'plans'? And am I entitled to half of his work settlement to help cover costs of being sole carer/earner/bill payer?

It’s unlikely that the settlement would be based on vague plans which may or may not come to fruition. If he’d received a job offer and you could demonstrate that his housing needs and costs were lower as a result, perhaps. Whether his redundancy payout could be included will completely depend on the size of the other assets in question and whether you could receive an equitable share which meets your needs without it being included. As it stands at the moment, his need for it is greater as he has no income and you presumably do. His child maintenance will reflect if he isn’t going to have regular care of the DC.
