Removed as POA - should I have been told?

My DM was set up to be someones POA with me and DH as reserves. She died and the persons family found out and were unhappy (although some of them had been informed). I said that I didnt feel the need to invoke it as the person had capacity but if that changed I would be happy to work with them to make sure that the person was ok.
I have since found out that in fact a new POA has been taken out on the person concerned and I only knew about it when I saw a Solicitors bill for this by accident. I have never been told that I am no longer a POA for this person.
Should I have been informed officially or otherwise?
Also, while I dont think the person is being abused and agree that the new POA holder is best placed to act in their interest I dont believe that the person concerned has capacity to agree to it now.
I dont actually want any involvement and am quite happy not to be a POA now, I only agreed because it was assumed that the person would die before my Mum for a few reasons BUT do I have any legal obligation here?
