I'm sorry this is long winded. Feeling anxious so hoping someone with the knowledge can advise. Thanks in advance.
I have a holiday booked for mid June. I submitted my first adult passport application the beginning of March. I realise now I should have done this sooner. I was told to apply for my sons first passport after I received mine as the process will be quicker.
My mum was born with surname A. As a young child her mother remarried, she had no contact with her father, her and her siblings were changed to surname B. As far as she knows this was not done officially, it was in the 70s if it matters. She does not remember the year it was changed, her parents have passed and she has no contact with any family. Even if she did they were children themselves so most likely won't know details.
When I was born my mum has surname B on my birth certificate. My father was not on my birth certificate so my surname was also B.
My mum married and changed her surname to C. She also changed my surname to C. I've asked her and she said this was only changed with school and doctors etc not via deed poll.
When I was around 10 I got a child passport in surname C. This was lost years ago.
At 16 I received my national insurance card. This has my birth surname -surname B. It's at this time I asked my mum who explained my name change hadn't been "official" so for 17 years I have been known by my birth surname, with college, bank accounts, employers etc.
Now as I was advised I put all of the above on a cover letter with my application. Gave birth certificates, ID for me and explained why there was no evidence of other name changes.
Since then I have been contacted for details I told them in writing I couldn't provide. For example, my old passport. Now reported as lost as they requested. Proof of me changing to my birth surname. Which as explained was not done/requested, it was the name on my national insurance card.
I've had to call them 5 times now and go through all of this each time. Today the service was poor and I've been left worried sick I won't get to take my son on holiday.
I've booked an appointment with a solicitors, my mum is coming with me because I really am at a loss.
Please someone tell me there is still hope of getting both these passports on time?
