Voluntary severance notice overlapping with new job

I will of course check this with both employers/solicitor but just for a quick end of day view.

I've been accepted for voluntary severance from my current role to finish one week after I'd like to start a job I've secured since the severance scheme was announced. I have 5 days leave to use up. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to start my new employment on the date I'd like, but finish old employment 5 days later - so essentially doing both jobs for a week but on leave from one.

Check your contract but you would actually be employed by both companies at the same time and many employers dont allow that

I took a career break from my old job and started another job. During the career break, the original company were offering voluntary redundancy and I was able to take it despite the fact I was working elsewhere already.
