Hi, posting on behalf of my adult daughter. She has been text by her boss advising she no longer has a job. She's been there about a year on a zero hour contract but works about 30 hours a week. The text body said he had gone through her cardigan pocket on her week off and found a wrapped used tampon. He said she was 'tragic' and he hoped she'd learn from her mistake, but he doubts it and that she no longer has a job there. I admit, it's not ideal because she works in a kitchen.
She's since been contacted by her former colleagues, who are all aware of this, as he has told everyone.
I've advised her to go to citizens advice as to me, mistakes are made, but there is no need to shame her, sack her and call her names. She's distraught. What do you think?

Your poor daughter. What a horrible bully of a man. I'm surprised with how many people are talking about a 'stench'. There wouldn't have been any smell so I'd want to know why he went through her cardigan pockets in the first place?

Some amazing responses on this thread. Coats/cardigans etc shouldn't be in the kitchen. The dried out tampon wouldn't smell to the extent that someone would go searching for the source of the odour - that's just nonsense. If all this is true, the boss shouldn't be looking in pockets, sharing what he finds with others - he's a bully. Onward and upward, dont look back - new job with reasonable people. Also have a chat with your DD as to how she might manage her personal hygiene more effectively in the future.

Since when. I’ve not used them since I had a hysterectomy ten years ago. I’m obvs out of date.

Since a lot longer than 10 years ago...!!

If you flush anything other than paper down the loo there's a chance it will end up in the sea...!! Far worse than leaving it in a pocket!!!!

To be fair, when I started using tampons, the box said they were flushable and I never read the instructions again after the first time so didn't know this advice had changed. I was shocked to find out as an adult that they weren't flushable, which I found out by reading a news article less than 10 years ago.
