Is this legal?

Son is in 2nd year of Uni - has already signed a contract for a different house to his current one, will move in in September for 3rd year. Also paid a deposit. Landlord is now saying each student (3 in house) needs to sign a new contract for £10 each more per week, as they've done some work to the house - new bathroom.
If they refuse to sign the new contract agreeing to the higher rent he will terminate the existing contract. Can he do this?

I think you'd need to get this moved to the legal section to get some accurate and informed answers.

Have you read the terms of the contract? What does it say about termination prior to move-in? Is there a cancellation period?

Definitely go ask the legal eagles.

Oh thank you - didn't know there was a legal section! Will try to get it moved.

What does it say about termination in the contract?

Good idea to move it to Legal. I'd also recommend they go to their Student Union. Most have advice on all sorts of rental issues - all free and student focused.

I've sent him to student services for advice and asked him to send me a copy of the contract
