Fathers parental responsibility

My son is 16 and having a difficult time with everything so we have a Family Support Plan in place. His biological father is named on the birth certificate but we have been split since before my son was born and had very little to do with him until he stopped seeing him altogether at 9 years old. For 7 years he has not made any effort to have a relationship with his son. Unfortunately he has recently been in trouble with the police and our Family Support Worker is telling me his dad will be contacted and there's nothing I can do because he has parental responsibility. This is NOT in my sons best interests, yet they say I have no choice as it's the law. Is this right?

Thanks in advance

At 16 surely your ds has the right to some privacy?

The problem is, my son doesn't know this yet and telling him would get his hopes up as he would love to have a relationship with his dad, but his dad lets him down every single time, and it is having a hugely negative impact on his mental health.
