Double charged - no refunds over the phone

Checking my credit card statement, a shop I visited whilst on holiday has double charged me. I've called the number on the receipt but they say they don't do refunds over the phone. Only in person. What is the legal position with this? It's a lot of money. It's also nowhere near where I live (although both me and the shop are in England).

The legal position is that they need to return your money. They cannot insist that you visit the shop to get your money back.

You may get more joy from talking to your credit card provider. They may be happy to reverse one of the transactions.

Ring your credit card provider. They will usually refund syraight away. Two identical amounts at the same shop seconds apart is clearly an error.
This once happened to me and my bank cancelled one charge immediately.

Thank you for the help. I logged a dispute on my credit card app and it's showing as a refund on my account at the moment 🤞🏼

Update to say it's still showing as a refund so I'm assuming the retailer saw the evidence and understood they had made a mistake. Thank you for your help.
