Faulty boots

I bought DP walking boots - described as waterproof. Fine for 8 months but he wore them yesterday and his feet got soaking

Where do I stand? I contacted the shop who told me I had to get them inspected and send them the report. Firstly I've no idea how to go about that but surely they should last more than 8 months - they're walking boots after all

Where did you buy them from? I’ve returned two pairs of ‘waterproof’ walking boots to decathlon for not being waterproof with no quibble at all.. one pair of worn once and the second pair is worn loads!

How is water getting in?

IME there's a point beyond which wet feet are inevitable.

As the boots are more than 6 months old, the retailer can argue that the problem is due to misuse or accidental damage. It is up to you to prove that the boots were faulty when you purchased them. You will need to find someone who can inspect them and write a report.

Don't all boots have to be rewaterproofed occasionally?

Don't all boots have to be rewaterproofed occasionally?

They do. How frequently depends on use. An avid hiker should get their boots re-waterproofed three or four times a year.

KnickerlessParsons · 24/01/2024 19:19

Exactly.

Alainlechat · 24/01/2024 19:49

Some manufacturers also offer 1 one year guarantee if no success with the retailer.

idontlikealdi · 24/01/2024 20:15

Have the been re waterproofed?

Blushingm · 24/01/2024 20:42

They've been worn a max of 10 times and even though they're walking boots only when he walks to work and it's raining

@Bromptotoo we can't see where or how water is getting in - it's only around the heel area

Take them back as not fit for purpose
