Hello, I have an American passport was born in the states to an American father and my British mother (GI bride). They moved back to the UK when I was 3 and I have been here ever since and am now 64.

I was educated here and worked here all of my life and I am married to an English man and we have one son.

When I was working I opted into a share option scheme and now wish to trade in these shares as they have made a profit.

The company are asking me for proof of ID, I have sent a copy of my passport and a current bank statement and they say this is not enough. The problem is I have no more IDd, I don't have a driving licence, I have other bits and pieces like a p60 and p45 copy of birth certificate, copy of premium bond statement which shows my name and address, I have provided my national insurance number and am now at a loss at what to do.

I should also add that I have successfully previously sold shares that I also bought when I worked for HSBC Bank through this company (Equiniti)

Can anyone advise please , the situation is stressing me out.

why not ask them?

Reugny · 29/12/2023 13:02

Ask them exactly what ID they need.

Normally I am required to send one form of picture ID plus two name and address types.

So I send passport or driving license as picture ID

Then for the name and address type I send a utility bill so gas & electric bill then my yearly council tax bill.

Are you filing US tax returns?

CHRIS003 · 29/12/2023 13:44

Sometimes the proof of address - utility bill has to be less than 3 months old.
Also has there been a change of address from the one that is on the share cert ?
I had to do this recently as an executor- I had to have a recent bank statement as well - within the last three months

Yes they have provided me with a list, but I have no more ID, as I said my husband pays the utilities.

The change of address is interesting as they had my address slightly incorrect, they had close instead of road so it was amended. I have lived at this address for 27 years.

The strange thing is I sold some shares last February and wasn't asked for anything.
I am awaiting a call back.
No I am not filing tax returns.

You should be on the council tax bill even if your husband pays it and you should get letters from HMRC showing your tax code information. Both of these should be sufficient.

Thank you I'll take a look.
