Hello All,

I am an ECT in her first year. I am wondering can I be on M2?

I graduated in 2021 and I worked as a full time teacher since November last year and only this year I have started my ECT.

So technically I have been a teacher for almost a year last year November and now I'm an ECT 1 can I go up to M2?

Pretty sure the school you’re employed by makes this decision

It’s up to you to negotiate with the school, ECTs do not have to start on M1. With your experience I would expect you to ask for M2.

I'm at the school where I did the one year before starting my ECT.

Just like any other salary, it's negotiable. I'd say it's entirely possible if you're doing well and someone they want to keep.

Is it not subject to performance evaluation via the school’s policy?

I'm a governor and we had the pay review meeting a few weeks ago (academy not LA) - might be worth checking how your school manages the process, when it's held etc.

This should have been part of your performance management review discussion with the head teacher. They recommend (or don’t) pay increases in line with school policies, and the governors decide at the pay review committee meeting.
