Our neighbours renovated. No prior notice was given before work started as a courtesy. We discovered that they were having work done as the builders were at it on a day I was WFH. The noise was horrific and sounded as if they were coming through our wall, so we reached out to our neighbour to ask them what exactly was happening - and for how long.
They stated that they were 'redecorating' including a new kitchen but there was no structural work happening and none of the work was subject to a party wall agreement.
We are now pretty sure that they lied to us. They removed internal walls - no idea if they were structural or not - and removed all the old plaster back to brick along the party wall on both the ground and first floor.
The result is that there is now almost no soundproofing between the two properties and we can hear everything. The noise isn't just significant on the other side of the party wall but throughout the house. It's like they are living with us!
Do we have any legal recourse here?
