Can anyone explain why an actuary needs to know the date of a divorce petition if they are acting for both parties on sharing pensions please? Decree nisi already granted but financial arrangements going to court.

If it was issued before the law allowed for pension sharing it won't be an order the court can make on divorce.

Why start a thread about it rather than just answer the question?

Because I don't understand why his solicitor is making a fuss about that - we are supposed to be submitting a joint request but they keep saying different things and delaying sending the letter, they are also saying it's inappropriate to ask them to consider pension offsetting - but I want to keep the family home so it is an important option for me.

It’s a basic piece of information that isn’t exactly hard to come by. Why not just supply it rather than question it.

Because it's sharing assets at the time of divorce I'd have thought? So they need to ascertain the time (date) of divorce?

I don't object to supplying it, that's my point, but we aren't divorced yet because he won't say what he wants so we have had to come down the court route for financial arrangements snd he/his solicitor seem to just create difficulties.

For context he left me and his children to move in with his secret affair partner FIVE years ago....

Because the method to calculate the value of the pension for divorce purposes is set out very specifically by law, and the date of the divorce petition is relevant to the calculation.
