Motor Ombudsman or Solicitor

NC as everyone I know in real life will recognise the saga Have posted in Chat but realised this might have been a better place.

We've been having problems with our car for two years now and we're not getting any satisfactory answers.

We need to escalate beyond the manufacturer, but I'm not sure if we will have more luck via the Ombudsman or whether we would be better paying for a solicitor.

Grateful for any experiences or advice!

Just updating this in case anyone else searches as the saga is finally at an end.

I did speak with the Ombudsman via their helpline a couple of times, they were unable to give advice without all of the details obviously but their general guidance was useful.

The problem we faced repeatedly was that the case couldn't be escalated by calling the manufacturer's helpline, there was no facility to speak to anyone senior - emails were ignored and asking on the phone just got a no.

In the end, we had success by searching for the CEO/MD's details and emailing "him" a full description of the saga. I didn't really expect anything to come of it, but thought it would be useful evidence for a claim through the Ombudsman as most discussions had been by phone and I had little written proof beyond my own notes. Happily, that step succeeded in escalating our case within the company and it finally made it to the desk of someone who could actually sign off on decisions that fell ever so slightly outside the norm. The car has now been repaired.

I’d go to the Ombudsman and then a solicitor afterwards if necessary.
