Fault liability car insurance claim

My car was very badly damaged by another vehicle whilst parked on the street as usual overnight a couple of days ago- probably needs at least one door replacing and a lot of paint repair.

They drove off and left no details, no cctv around (have checked for ring doorbells etc already, it's a quiet suburban street). So I've had to claim on my own insurance.

They've said they are treating it as a "fault liability claim" - what exactly does this mean, are they saying it is my fault?

In the absence of anybody else to claim against then it's likely to affect NCD etc.

No claims means no claims and not, unless it's offered as an extra, protection against being hit by an unidentified and/or uninsured driver.

Just tough luck I'm afraid.

Thank you, that link gives a lovely clear explanation!

Luckily they have confirmed in the letter that it's not going to affect my NCD.
