Delays in distributing estate

I’m one of the residuary beneficiaries of an estate that relates to a relative who died nearly 3 years ago. Simple estate, most complex part being one property which was sold over a year ago. But the estate has still not been fully distributed and it’s unclear why. Unfortunately I’m not an executor and neither is particular easy to deal with. Is there anything I can do to resolve this or do I just have to be endlessly patient?

Ask the executors for a full breakdown of the assets. If they don't comply or the accounts are incomplete, you can apply to the Probate Registry for a summons for an inventory and account. This obliges the executors to provide the relevant information. A summons is often enough to prompt them into action.

Thanks for responding. Realised I’d missed a salient point in my OP. Estate is being dealt with by solicitors and it’s unclear where the holdup is - certainly the solicitors have not been proactive. Should I write to them or the executors? Was fully expecting everything to be wound up within weeks of the completion of the house sale but I’ve chased the executor I’m closest to and now he’s ignoring my messages.

The executors are responsible. Chase them.
