How to change name by deed poll

Manifest828 · 12/09/2023 09:46

Hi all,

I'm looking to change my surname by deed poll. I want to use my maiden name as a middle name and then my new surname.

Does anyone know how to do this or how to go about getting this done?

TIA Smile

Government line is here:

https://www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll

Check with banks etc whether you need to go for the enrolled type. ISTR there's a log jam of enrolled applications and they're taking a while....

NB: That link is for England and Wales. Like lots of legal stuff it's different in Scotland...

I printed off a letter online, I can get a link for the site if you'd like. Filled it in. Had it signed. Everywhere has accepted it, you don't need to pay for it to be enrolled.

Daughter did hers without it being enrolled and has had no issues with anything

Just advance warning. I got divorced and changed my surname to a name of my choice and not my maiden name.
When I needed to move house and decided to get married again. I had to have a massive paper trail - made more complicated as I'm adopted so no normal birth certificate, so I had my little birth certificate, adoption certificate to show how I went from birth name, to maiden, to ex married name, to new name etc.. just keep a trail incase you need it in the future and enjoy the change/next chapter.

We don't have passports so I can't say for sure. But as a driving licence can be used to prove identity for a passport I presume they accept it.
