I come across a number of words relating to criminal law at work and there are a few I am unsure of their meaning. Being too embarrassed to ask at work, I was hoping the good people of MN could assist.
Could you please explain to me in the simplest of terms, a meaning or description of the following;
- Indictment
- Copy complaint
- Libelled (ie indictment libelled a charge)
- Summary proceedings
- Solemn proceedings (and an example of a crime that would fall under these)
- Substantive crime
- Petition (appear on petition, petition warrant)
- Undertaking
