Deed poll - order of changing documents?

Hello everyone:

I got a deed poll yesterday to change my name. Enrolled by solicitor.

I am just married and have taken husband's surname and put maiden name as a middle name.

I read on here best way is to change passport first as this then provides evidence for everything else.

I want to go on holiday end of October.

I was going to change passport name in next couple of days so had back in time for booking a holiday for end of October, however as my name change is via deed poll I need to provide evidence I am using my new name via utility bills or similar which obviously I do not yet have.

For this reason I want to wait to change my passport until after our holiday end of October.

My deed poll says I have to abandon my former name so my thought is to start changing my name for everything else (bank, driving license) and do passport last.

If you have experience similar to me - is a deed poll enough to do this? Do you forsee any issues in my doing my passport last?

I read on here it's actually a good thing to have one piece of ID in your old name as you can use it to prove your old name to change to your new name.

Thank you :)

Hi OP, do you have to get a deed poll?

“You do not need a deed poll to take your spouse’s or civil partner’s surname. Send a copy of your marriage or civil partnership certificate to record-holders, such as benefits offices. Your documents will be updated for free.”

Hi FoodFann thanks for your reply. Yes to add a middle name you do, which is what I've done as I have added my maiden name as a middle name.

I'm going through much the same, once u change ur name to ur new name legally,ur old one doesn't exist by law,if u read ur deed poll it will tell you this. From this day moth and year, you formally etc has legally given up said name and taken etc. So using your old name is a non existing name is illegal. I started with my bank, benefits etc im in process of blue badge and passport now, good luck xx.
