Joint account

Hi hoping someone can offer advice. I've been separated 8 years divorced 18th this. (So you can see what sort of arsehole the ex is dragging things out). He refuses to remove me from joint account. I've been in to see them and they can't do it without both of our say sos. My question is. Am I legally entitled to any money in the account even though we are divorced?

Yes. You can hold a joint account with anyone. Personally I'd get the bank to transfer all that's in the account into yours and give it him back when he's signed the forms to take you off the account.

That's what I'm thinking tbh. I'm also considering giving some to his children who he's had no contact with in years but it feels a bit like theft

Assuming there are no direct debits/standing orders coming from it - take all but £1 out and then ask bank to freeze the account.

Actually he’s being a bit daft because unless the account was stopped due to the divorce , you can close it rather than take your name off it and have the funds transferred wherever you like . Also do be aware while it’s still in joint names he could apply for an overdraft and you would be liable. I’d let him know that you will be closing it unless he agrees to take your name off , and failing that let the bank know there’s a dispute and get them to put a stop on it being used by either of you .

He's being stupid. I don't know why on earth he won't take me off. I'd hate him to be able to see how much money I have and what I'm spending it on. For the record that loser seems to be spending it on coke and only fans. Sad bastard!
