my partner has a court order which states contact takes place over 2 days per week building up to
overnights. This court order was made August last year.

Fortunatly everything has settled and they have for the last year increased
the contact to 50/50 as the parents
have a much better relationship and it has been a slow and steady build up.

myself and partners family think it may be wise to have all this set out legally, as in the past contact broke down and this was everyone knows where they stand

can I ask if anyone has any experience of this please

Up to your partner not you or his parents. I'd let sleeping dogs lie while things are working well.

Going back and asking for an adjustment to the order is possible I think. However I would not bother. Also 50:50 gets to be a complete faff around school etc. So some flexibility is best. Plus if people are getting on better, don’t rock the boat!

How old is the child involved now?

If they are 10+ then leave well alone as the child needs to be able to decide that they want the relationship with both parent as they get older.

Younger it depends - so if they have started school in the last year then likely worth it.
