If you inherit money from a family member including the sale of a house, do you pay CGT?

No. The estate may have to pay inheritance tax. All assets get a free CGT uplift so you acquire them at a base cost of their value at the time of death.

If you were to keep the inherited property and rent it out would you then pay CGT when you came to sell further down the line?

Yes. You would pay CGT on any increase in the value of the property.
